The association was established on November 5, 2018 to support the results of the Tsunami Shelter Promotion Study Group and to apply innovative fields such as intelligent materials and structural systems to disaster prevention and mitigation, combining the results of the Disaster Mitigation and Sustainability Research Group established at Chiba University in 2011 and the Disaster Mitigation and Sustainability Engineering Research Group developed by the Japan Society of Mechanical Engineers. The association was established on World Tsunami Day (November 5th), 2018.
